KENNETH S GOLDSTEIN 1927-1995

American academic folklorist, teacher, record producer, publisher and arts entrepreneur with a strong interest in Australian traditions. He visited Australia several times in the  early 1980s and early 90s, conducting fieldwork and research throughout the country, often in conjunction with John Marshall, Kel Watkins and Graham Seal.

‘Kenny’, as he was universally known, was a leading American folklorist with an international reputation and published widely, including his influential A Guide for Fieldworkers in Folklore (1964). He also contributed strongly to theoretical issues in children’ traditions and other areas of folkloristics.

His Wikipedia entry has links to much of his work, obituaries and an overview of his life and career.

His recordings from the first trip, 1982-3, with many Australian folklorists and others involved in the folk revival are in the NLA at https://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/4651720
