English composer, author and folksong collector who lived and worked in Australia in the early 1930s. He collected a version of ‘Waltzing Matilda’ in Winton, probably in August 1930. He harmonised it and published the arrangement in his travel book about his Australian experiences, Cobbers (1934). It was this version of the song that Peter Dawson later made famous and which most people sing today.
