Academic historian with a strong interest in folk balladry which he used extensively in his book, The Australian Legend(1958). He also published The Penguin Book of Australian Ballads (1981). Ward was a prolific writer and a major intellectual figure with many online links to his work and often controversial career, though generally with little information about his folkloric activities and interests.
